Понятие символики цвета появилось с древних времён. Люди издавна придавали большое значение языку красок, что, в свою очередь, нашло отражение в народных сказках, мифах, преданиях и учениях. Ведь цвет – это своеобразный знак, символ и сигнал. С помощью цвета можно сообщать информацию окружающим – в этом случае цвет будет играть роль тех слов, которые мы не произносим. Цвет оказывает на человека  не только эстетическое, но и психологическое и даже физиологическое воздействие. Цвет влияет на настроение и самочувствие, – цветотерапия как тип лечения признана во всём мире.

У разных народов в различных культурах один и тот же цвет может означать противоположные вещи, поэтому, чтобы не попасть впросак, лучше изучить эти нюансы прежде, чем общаться или вести переговоры с людьми других культур.

Цвет настраивает человека на определённый лад, и именно поэтому цвету в одежде уделяют такое огромное внимание стилисты, имиджмейкеры и специалисты по этикету.

Язык цвета в одежде играет, пожалуй, одну из самых ключевых ролей в создании вашего образа. Красный – вы в центре внимания!

Во многих языках красный означает красивый и прекрасный. Полинезийцы, например, словом «красный» обозначают и сам красный цвет, и слово «возлюбленный». А в Китае красный может означать также  «искренний, откровенный» (например, об искреннем человеке китайцы говорят «красное сердце»)

Символизм красного цвета достаточно противоречив. Наряду с положительными значениями красного цвета – такими, как радость, любовь, величие и красота, – красный цвет обозначает кровь, огонь, власть и борьбу. Красный считался цветом царей, императоров и других высокопоставленных особ. К примеру, в Византии красные сапожки могла носить только императрица, потому что красный цвет обозначал высокое положение.

В христианстве красный цвет одновременно символизирует кровь мучеников за веру, жертву Христову, царственное величие Христа, Пасху Красную, радость, красоту и любовь.

Активность красного цвета сложно преувеличить. Если вы хотите привлечь внимание, то нет ничего лучше, чем надеть красное платье.

В красном вы не останетесь незамеченной, но вот для собеседования надевать красный костюм вряд ли стоит, так как будущего работодателя активность красного цвета может невольно подавить и испугать. Красный всегда уместен на праздничных встречах, вечеринках. Этот цвет очень бодрит и дарит силы. Так что если вы планируете успокоиться и отдохнуть, не стоит делать этого в комнате с красными обоями. Красный цвет улучшает аппетит и обладает свойством поднимать кровяное давление.

Красный цвет в одежде обязывает к определённому поведению и манере держаться, ведь цвет этот – царственный. Осанка должна быть безупречна, а походка грациозна и величава, иначе в облике будет присутствовать некий диссонанс. Красный цвет – доминирующий, поэтому если вы решили доверительно побеседовать с другом или расположить кого-то к себе, это не самый удачный выбор цвета. Красный может утомлять окружающих.

Оранжевый – праздник детства!

Оранжевый цвет является промежуточным цветом между желтым и красным, поэтому в какой-то степени оранжевый впитал в себя свойства и символизм и того, и другого цвета. Оранжевый символизирует тепло, радость жизни, детскую беззаботность и оптимизм. Но в больших количествах этот цвет может раздражать и утомлять человека.Хочу отметить, что оранжевый цвет в одежде очень мало кого действительно украшает, поэтому с ним нужно быть осторожной. Если вы любите этот цвет, можно использовать его в деталях наряда или аксессуарах. Яркий аксессуар этого радостного цвета может поднять настроение и вам, и окружающим.

Желтый – кусочек солнца!

Жёлтый цвет символизирует солнечный свет, золото и в то же самое время увядание природы, осенние дни, зрелые колосья. Может быть, именно поэтому в некоторых культурах (например, в Японии) жёлтый цвет является траурным и печальным. У славян жёлтый считался символом ревности, предательства и измены, и у некоторых людей до сих пор сохранилось такое отношение к жёлтому цвету.

При этом жёлтый считается символом радости, солнца, веселья и праздника. В некоторых странах этот цвет был знаком отличия в обществе, его носили только вельможи из высших сословий и цари.

Жёлтый несёт в себе большой заряд энергии, активности, оптимизма и жизненных сил. Несмотря на яркость, жёлтый символизирует лёгкость, молодость и веселье.

Если вы в одежде жёлтого цвета, приготовьтесь к повышенному вниманию.Целиком жёлтый наряд может создать впечатление, что жёлтого цвета слишком много, поэтому если вы боитесь от него устать или утомить этим активным цветом окружающих, выбирайте аксессуары или детали в одежде желтого цвета.Активность жёлтого цвета можно приглушить, если сочетать его  с более спокойными цветами в одежде: серым, белым, голубым, бирюзовым.

Зелёный – жизнь и гармония!

Зелёный цвет – противоположность красного. Он символизирует надежду, свежесть, спокойствие, стабильность, умиротворение, юность, гармонию, пробуждение и жизнь. Для человеческого глаза зелёный цвет – самый привычный и комфортный, ведь землю наполняет зелёный цвет: листва, трава, растительность, лес. Зелёный цвет успокаивает, лечит нервы и усталость.
Конечно, есть и другое мнение о зелёном, иначе не появилось бы такое выражение, как «тоска зелёная», но такое перенасыщение может случиться с любым цветом, если его слишком много. Некоторые люди воспринимают зелёный цвет как слишком спокойный и пассивный.

В одежде лучшего цвета не найти, если вы хотите доверительно посидеть с друзьями или расположить к себе человека.

Голубой – небесная симфония!

Голубой цвет является промежуточным между зелёным и синим.  Он символизирует небо и морские просторы, покой и свободу, нежность и мир. Он успокаивает и действует на человека положительно.

Женщина в одежде голубого цвета вызывает ощущение воздушности и лёгкости. Она как будто парит в небе.

Синий – серьёзное постоянство!

Синий цвет символизирует постоянство, верность, благородство и таинственность, которую навевает синева сумеречного неба, кажущегося глубоким и бесконечным. Рыцари в Средневековье одевались в синий костюм, чтобы дама была уверена в постоянстве и верности. Понятие «синий чулок» символизирует скучность, неподвижность, серьёзность, стабильную во всех занятиях. Из-за близости к чёрному, синий цвет у некоторых народов символизирует печаль и тоску.Что касается тёмно-синего цвета, то он, скорее, вечерний и нарядный, но многие девушки используют этот цвет и в офисных костюмах, заменяя им более мрачный чёрный.

Фиолетовый – противоречивая глубина!

Сложность фиолетового заключается в том, что он состоит из красного и синего, являющихся противоположностями. Воздействие фиолетового цвета на человека двойственно: он активизирует и затормаживает одновременно. Может, поэтому фиолетовый многие считают печальным и немного подавленным цветом. Он сложен для восприятия и вызывает противоречивые чувства у окружающих, при всей его красоте.При этом фиолетовый – один из самых таинственных и глубоких цветов. Белый цвет символизирует добро, безмятежность, непорочность, истину, чистоту, мир, тишину, свет и радость. При этом у многих народов белый символизировал принадлежность к высшему социальному классу. Белые одежды в христианстве символизируют очищение, праведность, свет, возвышенность и духовность. В некоторых странах Азии и Африки белый считается цветом траура.Интересно, что белый цвет очень благотворно воздействует на человека, обладая свойством успокаивать всякое волнение и раздражение.

Одежда белого цвета всегда смотрится нарядно, свежо и шикарно. Девушка в белом всегда привлекает внимание и вызывает интерес. В России одежда белого цвета давно уже ассоциируется со свадебным нарядом или летним периодом. В остальное же время белый носить не принято, однако именно белый дарит много положительных эмоций в самые хмурые дни.

Серый – от цвета бедности к цвету элегантности!

Серый цвет прошёл эволюцию от скучного и тоскливого до роскошного и элегантного. В древние времена одежды серого цвета носили бедные крестьяне. Русские писатели, в том числе Гоголь, описывая в своих произведениях жилища опустившихся людей, называл их серыми.Однако, в эпоху Возрождения участь серого цвета изменилась кардинальным образом. Вдруг серый цвет стал символом благородства и изящества, его носили дворяне и принцессы. Одежда серого цвета из дорогих тканей – шёлка, атласа, бархата – смотрелась действительно элегантно. Стало считаться, что те, кто выбирает наряд серого цвета, обладает тонким и высоким вкусом. По заслугам оценили серый цвет, потому что он был достойным обрамлением других цветов. Помимо этого, серый стал цениться за его практичность и спокойствие.Розовый  – истинная женственность!

Розовый цвет символизирует нежность, доброту, хрупкость и романтичность. Это самый женственный цвет, он получается путём смешивания белого и красного цветов. Восприятие розового цвета мужчинами однозначно: перед ними девочка, и её нужно любить и оберегать.Ярко-розовый (фуксия)  — более агрессивный, но сохраняющий при этом привлекательность этого женственного цвета.

Коричневый – уют и стабильность

Судьба коричневого цвета очень похожа на судьбу серого. Долгое время коричневый цвет считался унылым и скучным. Он символизировал грусть и усталость. В Древнем Риме этот цвет носили только рабы или низший класс.

Но со временем этот спокойный и аппетитный цвет вошёл в моду, подобно серому. Теперь коричневый цвет символизирует уют и добротность, стабильность и покой. Он даёт отдых глазам и нервной системе, не утомляя человека.Теперь коричневый ассоциируется с шоколадом и чем-то очень тёплым, земным и уютным.

Чёрный – и классика, и предельная закрытость!

Чёрный цвет издавна символизирует траур и несчастье, однако чёрному цвету удалось завоевать первенство среди классических цветов благодаря знаменитой Коко Шанель. Психологи утверждают, что  этот цвет выбирают люди, которые хотят быть максимально незаметными. Человек в чёрном не хочет ничего выражать окружающим, он хочет, чтобы о нём ничего не знали, а только догадывались. У большинства народов чёрный символизирует негатив и депрессию, горе и тьму.

В мире моды чёрный цвет занимает лидирующее место, считается классикой и безупречностью. Несмотря на то, что чёрный может действительно стройнить фигуру, этот цвет подходит далеко не всем женщинам. Дело в том, что чёрный способен заслонить собой нежные черты лица или сделать вид мрачным и бледным. Чтобы оживить наряд чёрного цвета, нужно подобрать яркие или светлые аксессуары. Заменить чёрный можно тёмно-синим или тёмно-серым цветом.

Symbolism of Color in Clothing

The notion of color symbolism appeared since ancient times. From time immemorial people set a high value on the language of colors and this, in its turn, has reflected in folk tales, myths, legends and teachings. In fact, color is a unique sign, symbol and signal. With the help of a color you can provide information to people around you – in this case the color will play the role of those words which we do not pronounce. Color makes an impact on a person not only esthetically but also psychologically and even physiologically. Color influences the mood and well-being – color therapy as a type of treatment is acknowledged all over the world.

For different nations one and the same color may mean opposite things. For that reason, in order not to make a fool of oneself, one should better study these nuances before getting in touch or carrying negotiations with people of other cultures. Red color – you are the center of attention!

In many languages red means beautiful and splendid. Polynesian people, for example, use the word “red” in the meaning of the color itself and also meaning “a beloved person”. Red color symbolism is rather contradictory. Along with positive meanings of red color – such as happiness, love, greatness and beauty – the red color specifies blood, fire, power and struggle. The red color was considered to be the color of czars, emperors and other high-ranking noblemen. For instance, in the Byzantine Empire red high boots could be worn by empress only since the red color meant high position.

In Christianity the red color simultaneously symbolizes the blood of martyrs for the faith, Atonement, Happy Easter, joy, beauty and love.

It is hard to overestimate the activity of the red color. If you want to attract the attention the best way is to put red dress on.

Wearing red you will not be unnoticeable. But you shouldn’t wear the red suit for an interview because the activity of the red color might accidentally suppress and frighten the future employer. Red color is appropriate at celebratory meetings and parties. This color gives energy and invigorates. For that reason, if you plan to calm down and rest, you shouldn’t be doing it in a room with red wall-paper. Red color has a tendency to improve your appetite and raise blood pressure.

Red color of clothing calls for a certain behavior and personal style since this color is imperial. The body posture should be faultless and the manner of walking gracious and stately otherwise there will be a certain dissonance in the appearance. Red color is dominating and if you decided to have a private talk with your friend or search for somebody’s affection this selection of color is not the best. Red color may distress others.

Orange color – the feast of childhood!

Orange is an intermediate color between yellow and red. That is why it absorbs to some extent aspects and symbolism of both these colors. The orange color symbolizes the warmth, happiness of life, children’s nonchalance and optimism. But abundance of this color may irritate and wear others down. I’d like to underline that one should be careful with this color since in reality this color doesn’t beautify many of us. If you are in favor of this color you may use it in details of your attire or accessories. A bright accessory of this jolly color can improve your mood and that of others.

Yellow color – а piece of the sun!

Yellow color symbolizes the sunlight, gold and at the same time fading of nature and mature spikes. Maybe for that reason in certain cultures (for instance, in Japan) yellow color is mournful and sad. Slavonic peoples considered yellow color to be a symbol of jealousy, treason and betrayal. Some people have this attitude to yellow color till now.

Among other things, yellow color is considered to be a symbol of joy, sun, happiness and festivity. In some countries this color was a sign of distinctness in society, it was worn only by noblemen of the highest social categories and czars.

Yellow color carries a big charge of energy, activity, optimism and life force. Inspite of its brightness yellow color symbolizes lightness, youth and festivity.

If you wear yellow dress get ready for increased attention. If your full dress is of a yellow color it may create an impression that there is too much of yellow and if you are afraid to get tired of it or to tire others by this color, then make a choice of yellow color only in accessories or details of your attire. Activity of yellow color may be subdued if you combine it with more peaceful dress colors: gray, white, blue, turquois.

Green color – life and harmony!

Green color is an opposite to red color. It symbolizes hope, freshness, calm, stability, placidity, youth, harmony, wakening and life. For a human eye the green color is the most comfortable and habitual since the Earth is filled with green color of grass, foliage, vegetable life, forest. Green color calms a person down, cures nerves and tiredness. Sure, there exists another opinion about green color otherwise an expression “utter (green) boredom” wouldn’t appear. But such an oversaturation may happen with any color if it is in abundance. Some people consider green color as too quiet and passive.

If you want to have a confidential talk with your friends or make a good impression it’s hard to find a better color than green.

Blue color – heavenly symphony!

Blue color is an intermediate color between green and blue. It symbolizes the sky and large length of seas, serenity and freedom, tenderness and peace. It calms down and affects a human being in a positive way.

A lady wearing a blue color dress causes a feeling of lightness and airiness. As if she is flying as a kite.

Blue color means serious consistency!

Blue color symbolizes stability, devotedness, nobility and mysteriousness, that is brought by blueness of the twilight sky that seems to be very deep and endless. Medieval knights preferred to wear blue clothing for the lady to be sure in his self-consistency and devotedness. Notion “bluestocking” symbolizes dullness, immobility, seriousness which is stable in all activities. Being close to the black color, the blue color in some nations symbolizes sadness and grief. White color symbolizes goodness, tranquility, purity, truth, cleanliness, peace, silence, light and joy. Besides that, white color of many nations symbolized belonging to the highest social class. In Christianity white color attire symbolizes purification, sainthood, light, highness and spirituality. In some of Asian and African countries white color is considered to be the color of mourning. It’s interesting to mention that white color has beneficial effect on a person and possess the ability to calm down any excitation and irritation.

White color clothes always look fresh, elegantly and stylishly. A girl wearing white clothing always attracts attention and arouses interest. For a long time now in Russia white color is associated with wedding gear or summer time. It is not a custom to wear white dress every day, however white color in particular provides many positive emotions during the most overcast days.

Grey color — from color of poverty to the color of elegance!

Grey color has evolved from dull and depressing to become elegant and magnificent. In old days grey color used to be the color of poor peasants. Russian writers, including Gogol, describing in his novels the houses of poor degraded people called them grey. However, the destiny of grey color has cardinally changed during the Renaissance era. All of a sudden, the grey color became a symbol of nobility and refinement, it was worn by gentry and princesses. Clothes of grey color made of expensive fabrics – silk, satin, velvet – was really looking elegantly. It was widely thought that people selecting grey color attire possess classic and high taste. Grey color was treated according to its merits because it was a presentable framing of other colors. Besides that, grey color was valued for its functionality and calmness.

Pink color – genuine womanhood!

Pink color symbolizes tenderness, kindness, fragility and romanticism. It is the most feminine color, it comes from mixture of white and red colors. Men perceive this color unambiguously – they consider that they look at a girl who should be loved and guarded. Hot-pink color (fuchsia) is more aggressive but it still preserves the attractiveness of this feminine color.

Brown color – comfort and stability!

Brown color destiny is very much like a fate of a grey color. For a long time grey color was considered to be dull and boring. It symbolized sadness and fatigue. In Ancient Rome this color was worn by slaves or lower society only.

But eventually this calm and appetizing color became fashionable like a grey color. Nowadays, brown color symbolizes coziness and quality, stability and peace. It provides rest for a person’s eyes and nerves and does not tire a person. At present, brown color is associated with chocolate and something very warm, earthly and comfortable. .

Black color – both the classics and extreme closeness!

Since olden times the black color symbolizes mourning and disaster, however the black color managed to win the first place among classic colors thanks to famous Coco Chanel. Psychologists assert that this color is selected by people who want to be unnoticeable to the maximum. A person wearing black does not want to express anything for others. He does not want anybody to know anything about him. He wants them to make assumptions about him. With the majority of nations the black color symbolizes negativism and depression, grieving and darkness.

In the fashion world the black color holds a leading place and is considered to be classical and flawless. Despite the fact that black color may really make a figure look more slim, this color does not fit for every woman. The fact is that black color may push into the background the tender features of a face or may make the complexion gloomy and pale. In order to vivify black color attire it is necessary to make a selection of bright or light-color accessories. Black color might also be replaced by dark-blue or dark-grey colors.
